Behind the Scenes

An Inside Look at Our New Herb Packaging

To add complex, satisfying flavors to each of our dishes, fresh herbs are often essential. But compared to many items like protein or hardy vegetables, they can also be difficult to ship. In order to better protect these fragile plants, we’ve recently switched up our packaging to clamshell containers.

Given the delicate, temporal nature of certain foods, shipping ingredients for your weekly recipes can present its challenges. Over the past few years we’ve made massive strides from when we used to pack boxes in Co-Founder Nick Taranto’s kitchen, but we’re still constantly trying to unearth new ways to improve.

To add complex, satisfying flavors to each of our dishes, fresh herbs are often essential. But compared to many items like protein or hardy vegetables, they can also be difficult to ship. In order to better protect these fragile plants, we’ve recently switched up our packaging to clamshell containers.

Beyond ensuring that they arrive to your doorstep without any potential interference from other items, the clamshells are packed with herbs within 72 hours of being picked directly from the farm. This packaging will also help these flavor-boosting ingredients last longer and stay fresher—and it’s 100% recyclable.

In weeks to come, we hope that as you unpack the likes of parsley, tarragon, and cilantro, you’re pleased with the change. And, as always, we welcome feedback on how we can better your experience—email us at packaging@plated.com.
