The Best (And Only) Mint Julep Recipe You Need

Welcome to À La Minute: what’s hot right now in the Plated Test Kitchen.

A Kentucky Derby classic, the mint julep cocktail is a refreshing, bourbon-heavy drink served up by the gallon during the famous horse race. We love it so much, we think you shouldn’t have to travel (or wait) to enjoy it (after a long day at work) at home. If you really want to go all out, use a frosty pewter cup.

1. Mint
2. Simple syrup
3. Ice
4. Bourbon
5. Stir
6. Garnish
7. Sip (slowly)

3 sprigs fresh mint, divided
1 tablespoon simple syrup
crushed ice
¼ cup Black Maple Hill bourbon
julep or highball glass

Rinse mint sprigs and place 2 in a julep or highball glass along with simple syrup, swirling to muddle. Fill glass ⅔ of the way up with crushed ice. Pour over bourbon, then add more crushed ice. Garnish with remaining mint sprig. Cheers!
