Celebrate World Nutella Day with Crispy Dessert Wontons

Whether you’re looking to celebrate World Nutella Day or simply are craving chocolate, we have a perfect recipe to satisfy your sweet tooth.

There’s no shortage of bogus food holidays (we’re looking at you, National Turkey Neck Soup day…), but World Nutella Day is honestly one that we can get behind celebrating. If you’re anything like us and routinely look to satisfy your sweet tooth, we have the perfect recipe. In our Crispy Nutella and Peanut Butter Wontons, we put a sweet and gooey spin on dumplings. The texture contrast is everything here: Nutella, a chocolate hazelnut spread, and peanut butter serve as the creamy center in these crisp, shallow-fried wonton wrappers. Make them using the recipe below, and let us know what you think.

RECIPE TIP
You know your oil is hot enough when small bubbles immediately form around a dumpling added to the pan. Wait a minute in between batches to allow the oil to return to the proper temperature, but keep in mind that as it heats, the second batch may cook faster than the first.

INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons peanut butter
2 tablespoons Nutella spread
6 wonton wrappers
1 teaspoon powdered sugar

EQUIPMENT
1 cup canola oil
medium high-sided pan

1. Fill Dumplings
In a small bowl, mix together peanut butter and Nutella to make filling. Lay 1 wonton wrapper on a clean dry surface and place about 2 teaspoons filling in center. Using your finger, rub warm water around outer edge. Fold wrapper over filling and pinch to seal. Set aside, covered with a damp paper towel. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

2. Fry Dumplings
Fill a medium high-sided pan with about 1 cup canola oil; it should only come halfway up the side. Place over medium heat. When oil is shimmering and looks streaky, add 1⁄2 of dumplings in a single layer. Fry until golden, 1–2 minutes per side (see Recipe Tip). Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Repeat with remaining dumplings.

3. Plate Dumplings
Sprinkle powdered sugar over dumplings and serve warm.
