Last Minute Sangria

If you find yourself scrambling for a last minute drink idea for Memorial Day, sangria is the answer. All you need to do to make a successful batch is cut up your favorite fresh fruit and, since we’re celebrating the beginning of summer, you should have a lot to choose from. As for the other ingredients, the chances you’ll have them lying around the house. You can get creative with this cold, refreshing pitcher and there will be plenty to go around. Here’s one recipe from Martha Stewart that we recommend for your holiday weekend:

White Wine Sangria

– 6 cups assorted fruits (such as mango, pineapple, cantaloupe and apricot), sliced or cut into chunks

– 1/4 cup thinly sliced peeled fresh ginger

– 1 to 1 1/2 cups fresh basil or mint leaves

– 1/2 cup orange liqueur, such as Cointreau

– 1 bottle crisp white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio

– 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (from 1 lemon)

Combine fruit, ginger, basil or mint, and orange liqueur in a large pitcher. Mash the ingredients together to release their flavors. Pour in the white wine and lemon juice, stir and refrigerate for a lease 1 hour (or up to 24 hours). Serve and enjoy!
