Celebrate National Dog Day (Every Day) With Homemade Dog Treats

Whether you’re a dog owner or just a plain puppy fanatic, there’s no denying that there’s something special about man’s furry best friend. In honor of National Dog Day, we put together a few recipes for homemade dog treats you can feed to your favorite four-legged pal.

Peanut Butter Treats

½ cup peanut butter
½ cup pumpkin puree
2 eggs
1 cup whole wheat flour
½ cup oats

1. Whisk together peanut butter, pumpkin, and eggs in a large bowl.

2. Slowly whisk in whole wheat flour and oats just to combine.

3. Dollop onto parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes.

Jerky Treats

4 strips beef jerky, finely chopped
1 cup peanut butter
¼ cup maple syrup
1 cup flour
2 eggs

1. Whisk together peanut butter, maple syrup, and egg.

2. Stir in flour, then beef jerky.

3. Roll into a log and chill in fridge for 20 minutes.

4. Slice log into ½-inch slices, then place on  a baking sheet and bake until set, about 20 minutes, at 350 degrees F.

Apple Treats

1½ cups applesauce
½ cup oats
1 apple, diced
1 cup whole wheat flour

1. Whisk together apple, applesauce, oats, and flour.

2. Pour into a baking dish and bake at 350 degrees F for 25 minutes.

3. Cut into pup-friendly squares.
