Garlic is one of our favorite herbs to cook with in the kitchen. While it may be tempting to opt for pre-minced garlic or garlic powder, there’s no reason to be intimidated by fresh garlic. Use these cheffy hacks to cook with garlic like a Plated pro.

Mince Garlic

While sometimes you do have to make garlic paste (been there, done that), most often, you’ll need to do a basic mince. It’s a lot easier than you think, once you have these steps down pat.

1. Break it
2. Smash it
3. Peel it
4. Crush it
5. Mince it
6. Keep mincing
7. Almost there…
8. Wipe knife clean

Make Homemade Garlic Paste

Time to stop fretting over those most annoying meal prep steps. With this simple technique (found in a variety of Plated recipes), making garlic paste is about to become a whole lot easier.

1. Smash it
2. Mince it
3. Salt it
4. Hold knife at 45 degree angle
5. Pull it across board
6. Repeat until paste forms
7. Add to homemade dressings (and more!)
