For simple, steamed rice, the instructions are pretty simple (even though it might seem intimidating!). There’s one very important rule that you need to follow to insure the perfect, fluffy rice, though. Do not, under any circumstances, lift the lid! Not even for one peek. While it’s simmering, after you turn off the heat, be sure to keep the lid secure on top. And THAT is the big secret to the best rice, every time. Easy as… rice.
1 cup short grain white rice
1.5 cups water
In a small pot, combine rice, 1.5 cups water, and .25 teaspoon salt, and bring to a boil over high heat. Stir once, reduce heat to medium low, cover pot, and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove pot from heat and let stand, still covered, for 10 minutes. Fluff rice with a fork, then cover to keep warm until ready to serve.
