Your New Go-To, Customizable Smoothie Equation

Keep your 2016 dietary resolutions by experimenting with a refreshing, light smoothie recipe. Here, we share our basic formula to get you started.

After nearly two full months of enjoying seconds and thirds of stuffed turkey, baked ham, roasted pork tenderloin—and an endless parade of cookies, pies, and cheesecakes—we’re thinking about refreshing ways to keep our 2016 culinary resolutions. So we’re pulling out the much-neglected blender to prepare something lighter, brighter, and fresher: a fruit smoothie.

The secret to a well-balanced smoothie is tinkering around with the proportions until it’s just right for you. Here, we’re sharing our basic formula to get you started, then you can use it to experiment and unlock the combinations you love.


Liquid: Add any type of milk you like or your favorite yogurt. Start with ¼ to ½ cup and go from there.

Fruit: We like to use a mix of fresh and frozen fruits for the best texture. Experiment!

Sweetener: Use a dash of honey or agave if you like—or skip it altogether if you’re using naturally sweet fruits.

Ice: Throw in a few ice cubes for a refreshing, slushy texture. If you’re using some frozen fruit, feel free to add less ice.
