The Best Method and Recipes for Perfect Popcorn

Whether you’re enjoying an outdoor movie or nestled on your couch at home, with this method and these recipes, you’ll have the perfect popcorn.

Between summer blockbusters and outdoor movies under the stars, summer presents pretty much the ideal time to enjoy popcorn. Salt, pepper, and butter may be your go-to ingredients (and we don’t blame you), but if you’re looking to kick things up a notch, we’re here to show you how. In our Facebook Live and recipe below, we share the best method for creating perfect popcorn, and a bunch of different ingredient combos you can have fun with (hot chocolate popcorn, anyone?)

Ingredients for Popcorn

⅔ cup popcorn
2.5 tablespoons coconut oil
1–2 tablespoons olive oil or butter to incorporate ingredients
(Makes 9–10 cups of popcorn)

Instructions

1. Add oil and 3 popcorn kernels to a medium pot over medium-high heat. Cover pot, and gently shake to ensure all kernels are coated in oil.

2. Listen for kernels to pop. Once they have, remove from pot. Remove pot from heat and add remaining popcorn kernels. Cover pot and wait about 30 seconds. Return pot to heat and leave lid slightly ajar (helps the steam to escape and makes for crisper popcorn). Occasionally shake the pot ensure the kernels are in an even layer. Allow to cook for about 2 minutes until all kernels have popped (listen for popping to slow down, about 10 seconds between pops).

3. Remove the pot from heat, divide popcorn into bowls.

4. Season with desired flavors below.

After nailing your popping technique, it’s time for the fun part—seasoning. Here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy a fresh batch of popcorn. Lightly drizzle the recommended oil (one to two tablespoons) over the popcorn, and get started with about two tablespoons of each ingredient unless otherwise noted. Season to taste and enjoy!
