A Summer in Food: Which trends made your checklist?

A childhood favorite plus ice cream, this Pop Tart Ice Cream Sandwich was released this summer by Carl’s Jr. One strawberry pop tart, split, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Make your own popcorn. From Coconut Sriracha Popcorn to Peanut Butter and Jelly, the DIY popcorn flavors aren’t dying with the end of summer.

There was a bit of buzz around Keizo Shimamoto’s  Ramen Burger at Smorgasburg this year. What is it? A 75-25% blend beef patty sandwiched between two browned ramen noodle “buns” topped with shoyu sauce, spicy arugula and a sprinkle of scallions.

We aren’t over Sriracha by any means, but Gochujang – a fermented Korean chili condiment – is finding it’s way into our hearts and kitchens.

Of course the cronut was a news breaker this summer, but did you wait out the line to try one of the limited edition Shake Shack Cronut-Hole Concretes? Dominique Ansel and Shack Shack partnered for a one-day only sale of this winning combo. It wasn’t just for cronut hype: All proceeds went to the NYPD Widows & Children Foundation and Madison Square Park Conservancy.
